Definitely one of the best pick for going on safari to watch the biodiverse park. Royal Bengal tigers are the star of the Bandhavgarh National Park primarily in the central Tala zone. Apart from Royal Bengal Tigers, other animals include white tigers, leopards and deer. The rich mix of sultry forest, Sal trees and lowland is home to bird species, including resident and migratory. A mid-air view of the confined buffer zone and core zone will be an elite experience for the safari lovers.

Tala Zone: It is one of the oldest and most popular zones of Bandhavgarh National Park. Apart from tiger sightings, the zone is also known for its several other attractions. These include the famous Bandhavgarh Fort and the 10th-century tourist attraction the Shesh Shaiya, the idol of Lord Vishnu lying on the Shesh Nag. The idol is also the origin of Charan Ganga which provides life to the park and its various meadows. Umaria is the nearest town (32 km) from the Tala zone.

Magadhi Zone: The zone is also known as Gate 2 of Bandhavgarh National Park. It has several natural and manmade waterholes including Murdhawa, Dabhadhole, Sukhi Patiha and Charkpwaha where tiger sightings have been reported. This zone is characterized by mixed dense forests and grasslands.

Khitauli Zone: This zone is known as Gate 3 of the Bandhavgarh National Park. The forest area has dry-deciduous forests and several tiger sightings have been reported in the past few years. The zone is also home to a herd of migrant wild elephants. Apart from tigers, other animals that can be spotted here include nilgai, chinkara and chausingha. Apart from animals, the zone is emerging as a favorite for birdwatchers.

Dhamokar Zone: 14 km from the Tala Zone, this buffer zone is an extension of the Magadhi Zone and lies between Parasi and Mahaman villages. The Mudgudi dam and a few natural caves of Sehimaada are the major attractions of the zone. The Kadewaha grassland is ideal for spotting wildlife in the zone. 

Johila (Kalwa) Zone: An extension of the Tala zone, the entry point to this zone lies near the Chechpur village. The Johila waterfalls located in this zone attract several tourists during the safari. The waterfall originates from Amarkantak and drains in the Son River.

Entry Formalities - As the entire periphery of the Bandhavgarh National Park; falls under restricted and protected area, so official permission is required to visit the core/buffer area of the tiger territory. An official permit issued by the government for entering into any safari zones of the park is mandatory. The day visit permits are required for Indian nationals as well as foreigners for entering into any tourism zones of BTR.

Safari booking procedure for Bandhavgarh National Park:-

You can book a safari for Bandhavgarh National Park by searching for availability at our official website. Alternatively, you could also ask us for a safari booking. If you have decided to take a trip to Bandhavgarh National Park then safari booking in advance is mandatory. The timing for safari varies during the summer and winter months. However, safari timings can change anytime at the discretion of Park management. The park remains closed in March on the occasion of Holi and every Wednesday (only core area) evening for safari.

Every day, a specific number of vehicles are permitted to enter the forest in different zones. This is done to avoid overcrowding the forest and disturbing the natural flora and fauna of the region.

Important information required while booking an online safari for Bandhavgarh National Park:-

Since safari booking is subject to availability and is carried out on a first-come-first-served basis, you need to book your excursion in advance. To book a safari online, you are required to take care of the following things:

  • Government-issued ID proof for name, age, nationality, and sex of the tourist.
  • The identity card number of each visitor (Aadhar card, voter ID, PAN card, driving license, passport etc.)
  • Tatkal bookings for the next day open every day at 5 PM in the morning (one day before).
  • The online booking permit contain charges for the Permit, vehicle and the guide. You need not to pay anything before entering the gate.
  • The entry permit is for individuals, valid for the specified date and time, and cannot be transferred.
  • Since a limited number of vehicles are allowed to enter the park at a time, it is advised to book your tickets 120 days in advance.
  • In case of cancellation of safari booking, if the cancellation is done more than 30 days before the excursion date, 50% fee is refunded. However, if the cancellation is done 0-30 days before the scheduled excursion date, a 100% fee is charged for cancellation.
  • Any bookings that are cancelled or rescheduled within 5 days of the excursion are converted into Tatkal online permits. The Tatkal permit opens 1 day before the excursion at 5 PM, till the safari start time.
  • If a safari booking shows as ‘W’ (for waiting), it is confirmed only if the waiting list is cleared. If the same is not cleared before 5 days of your planned excursion, the permit is canceled automatically and the amount is refunded to you.
What to carry with you in person during your safari at Bandhavgarh National Park:-

To have a splendid time and enjoyable safari at Bandhavgarh National Park, you need to follow the rules of the park. To ensure your time in the forest is captured beautifully, you should carry a good-quality camera and powerful binoculars to view the wildlife from close quarters. Additional things to carry with you on your safari include:

The photo identity card that is used to book your online safari seats. Without identity proof, you will not be able to undertake the safari. Also, carry the entry permit for your vehicle or your safari booking receipt with you while going on safari.

A hat or cap to protect you from the harsh summer sun. if you are undertaking the safari in the summer months, ensure that you have your sunglasses and a bottle of water with you. this will help you in keeping hydrated and prevent sunstroke.

If you are taking the safari during the winter season, keep yourself covered in warm clothes as the temperature in the forest is lower than that in the city.

Avoid wearing bright-colored clothes for safari as they can attract unnecessary attention from the wildlife. It is advised to wear earthy tones like brown, grey, etc. so that you can easily blend with the surroundings.

Disturbing the wildlife by talking loudly, playing loud music, or throwing waste in the jungle is not allowed and therefore care should be taken to avoid doing such things.

Open Jeep Safari – This safari can accommodate 6 people apart from the driver and naturalist. Children above 5 years are counted as an individual for safari. Tourists can book the safari for morning or evening slots. The timings for the safari are different for the summer and winter seasons. The jeep safari is open from 01st October to 30th June every year for the core zones. The buffer zones remain open throughout the year.

Canter Safari – (Cureently it is not available) This is an excellent way to explore the beauty of the national park. The canter is an open 12–24-seater bus which offers an amazing view of the forest and its wildlife to the visitors. Online canter safari is not available. However, bookings for the same can be done at the gates of the Bandhavgarh National Park. The canter safari is available in both morning and evening slots.

Elephant Safari – (Cureently it is not available) The elephant ride is available in the Tala zone of Bandhavgarh National Park. Nothing can beat the spectacular view obtained from sitting atop the majestic elephant. Since tiger sighting chances are quite high in the Tala zone, the elephant ride comes as a bonus. Moreover, the elephant ride also offers a vantage point for clicking amazing photographs of the beautiful surroundings. Additionally, since this is a half-day safari, you have plenty of time to explore the region and try your luck. The bookings for this safari are done on a first-come-first-served basis. 

Full-Day Safari – Ideal for photographers and wildlife enthusiasts, this safari takes place from dawn to dusk. Apart from additional 15 minutes for entry and exit from regular permits, the additional benefit of opting for this safari is that you are not restricted to any particular zone or route. However, for these additional benefits, you need to deposit advance payment with the forest department of Bandhavgarh National Park.

Night Safari – This safari is available in the Panpatha (Pachpedientry point) and Dhamokhar (Parasientry point) buffer zones of the Bandhavgarh National Park from 7 PM to 9:30 PM in winter and 07:30 to 10:30 in summer season. It offers the tourists an excellent chance to observe the nocturnal animals in their natural surroundings. With luck, you might be able to spot deer and Royal Bengal tigers. However, a limited number of vehicles are allowed to enter the zone for the night safari, therefore making an advance booking is recommended. Available on same day at ticket counter only.
